5 Daily Rituals for Practicing Self-Care

 

Every year during the month of May, Mental Health Awareness Month is observed in the United States as a national movement to raise awareness and fight the stigma surrounding mental health issues. Millions of people struggle with their mental health and this is an opportunity for us all to support one another and educate the public. 

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we’re sharing some of our favorite everyday rituals to incorporate into your self-care routine. You can use these rituals as you see fit to get yourself out of a rut, boost your creativity, and improve your overall mental health. Take what serves you, leave what doesn’t. 5 Daily Rituals to Improve Mental Health 

1. Meditation 

 Choose a time in the day when you can be alone to practice meditation for 5 to 20 minutes. You can simply sit in silence focusing on your breath as it rises and falls or opt for a guided meditation experience through an app or a YouTube video. It might surprise you how much calmer you feel for the rest of the day! 

2. Gratitude 

You can practice gratitude in many ways, but one of the most common is by writing in a gratitude journal. Each day, write down 3-5 things you feel grateful for at that moment, whether it’s your children, your health, or even the smell of freshly mowed grass. This is a great way to remind yourself of all that you have to be grateful for in your life.  

3. Breathwork 

Breathwork is an amazing practice for balancing your system and calming your mind. Sit in a quiet area and inhale through the nose for a count of four, then exhale through the nose for a count of four. Repeat this breathwork practice 4-5 times, focusing on your breath as it slowly goes in and out of your body.
